Q: What is foster care? A: The State of Arizona is responsible to investigate possible cases of abuse or neglect. If the State finds evidence that a child is not safe, the State can remove the child and place them in a licensed home. Q: What does "age out" mean? A: When a youth reaches the age of 18, the State no longer has to provide services (such as food, clothing and shelter) for youth. Youth do have the opportunity stay with the State until age 21.
